Hunter Duggin Bio

I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student studying physics at the University of North Carolina in Amy Nicholson's group. My research interests lie in the area of theoretical nuclear physics at low energies. I am interested in the structure of particles made up of quarks and gluons known as Hadrons. Our group at UNC works on understanding nuclear physics from the underlying theory, the Standard Model of particle physics, using supercomputers. If you'd like to find out more about the Nicholson group's research, visit the group page here.

Service

Aside from research, I am passionate about physics education and scientific communication. I have taken extracuricular classes and attended seminars to help further my teaching skills. Historically, I have taught the studio (lab) sections of UNC's PHYS 119 class. I have also taught the recitations for the graduate level statistical mechanics class PHYS 741, and in Fall 2026, I will be teaching the course on Experimental Techniques. In addition to my teaching at the university level, I am on the outreach and public engagement comittee for the department of physics.
